Intro: [00:00:00] Hello and welcome to the Posers podcast, the place where we skip the fluff. Say the quiet parts out loud and dig into what really matters. This is where photography, psychology, and business collide. I'm Jody, your host, and I'm bringing you my raw takes, hard wins, and a whole lot of unfiltered honesty about what it takes to build a photography business that actually connects and makes money.
So ladies, grab your headphones and get your tits up and your ears open because we are going to build something really incredible together.
Laura Stansberry: So let's roll back to- Okay, roll back ... April of 2025. Yes. And I'm sitting front and center,
and Jody takes the stage.
Jodi Hendricks: There's my squeal.
Laura Stansberry: And on the screen it says, "Sometimes the delulu is the solulu."
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: And I'm like, "I don't know what she's gonna [00:01:00] say, but I am in." But I am
Jodi Hendricks: all in. "I am all in."
Laura Stansberry: And I literally was. I lapped it up. It was like, I was like, where has this woman been? I I'm sure I went back to my Airbnb and listened to the podcast.
I know I called my husband and was like, "I just met the most incredible person. I am, like," I was your in-app purchase ... obsessed. You were my in-app purchase. I am obsessed. Sorry, Shannon. And then I even got to spend a little more time with you after that because then you ended up coming to Shannon's Shoot and Learn.
Jodi Hendricks: Well, I, yeah, I came to act as the den mother.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah. So Shannon was doing a Shoot and Learn for boudoir. Mm-hmm. And I came in literally just hype girl to Shannon.
Laura Stansberry: Mm-hmm.
Jodi Hendricks: I wanted to make sure that I had BTS for her- Yeah ... so that she had things to post from all of that. And then I really just started talking to all of you guys 'cause as Shannon- Mm-hmm
was shooting, Shannon is... God, she's such an incredible artist.
Laura Stansberry: She wanted us to-
Jodi Hendricks: She wanted us to
Laura Stansberry: watch ... watch at first.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah. Yeah. Because [00:02:00] Shannon is very, what's the right word? She's very reverent.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: Right? She's very whispery. Mm-hmm. She, she wants to have that really intimate connection with the subject.
And so she was doing all of that, and everybody was sitting back watching.
Laura Stansberry: Mm-hmm.
Jodi Hendricks: And then as people started to jump in and as it started to get a little bit more irreverent- Mm-hmm ... then I started hanging out with you guys, chatting with you guys. Yeah. I was drinking a bottle of champagne - Yes
Laura Stansberry: back
Jodi Hendricks: in the
Laura Stansberry: room. Yes. Yes, you were. Maybe there's a photo of it. I don't know.
Jodi Hendricks: Maybe. Maybe you took a photo of it.
Laura Stansberry: Maybe.
Jodi Hendricks: Right? But that's whenever me and you actually, like-
Laura Stansberry: Yeah ...
Jodi Hendricks: hung out. Yeah. We actually chatted and talked and whatever. Is that the thing that made you trust me? Or was it more research, more like-
Laura Stansberry: No, I really liked you.
I really liked you. Cause I've always had a love of psychology.
Jodi Hendricks: Th- I really just had Laura on the podcast for just a little, like- Just
Laura Stansberry: to gas her
Jodi Hendricks: up ... just a self, self-esteem
Laura Stansberry: boost- Just a little
Jodi Hendricks: boost ... for the day. No, I'm joking.
Laura Stansberry: No, I really liked you. I [00:03:00] have really, I have always loved psychology.
So that was a particular interest, that I knew you were talking about things from a psychological standpoint.
But then- Uh, I also was very out of pocket that retreat. You're
Jodi Hendricks: so out of pocket. I was
Laura Stansberry: by myself.
Jodi Hendricks: I am
Laura Stansberry: inner-
Jodi Hendricks: I mean out, I mean out of pocket a little bit like wild and crazy. Like you're so fun out of pocket, but you're talking about out of pocket like you felt uncomfortable.
Laura Stansberry: I felt very uncomfortable.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: You told me
Jodi Hendricks: about that yesterday.
Laura Stansberry: Yes. I felt very uncomfortable. For... We don't even have to go into it, but I felt very uncomfortable and I was by myself. Yeah. Completely by myself.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: So One, I felt a little connection with you and Shannon because I think, you know, one, I just liked you both so much.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: But then I also w- after going home from the retreat, like you kept coming back to mind. I kept going over, you had us do the red ocean, blue ocean activity.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: I still have my pens.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah, I love it.
Laura Stansberry: I love it. They're...
Jodi Hendricks: Are they framed at
Laura Stansberry: home? No, they sit in the middle of my desk. And I look at them and I'm [00:04:00] like, "Oh, my Jodie pens."
Jodi Hendricks: I had a red pen and a blue pen- Yes ... sitting in their chairs ready so they could like, do the activity with them.
Laura Stansberry: And that really, that exercise in and of itself resonated with me of that-
Jodi Hendricks: It's episode 3 and 11 of this- Yes ... podcast if you wanna go back and listen to it.
Laura Stansberry: Rewind. They are very good.
That the things that make me different are the things that will change my business.
Jodi Hendricks: Mm-hmm.
Laura Stansberry: So I started really spending some time on my own after that thinking about, "Okay, what is it that I do that makes me different? What is it that I do or don't do-
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah ...
Laura Stansberry: that might resonate with people?" And those are the things that I am going to hone in on.
And in that timeframe, you and I had like DMed a little bit. Mm-hmm. And then I think it was probably like a month later-
Jodi Hendricks: You DMed me the photo of me drinking the champagne-
Laura Stansberry: Yes ...
Jodi Hendricks: in the back.
Laura Stansberry: Yes. [00:05:00] Yes. We had DM'd and then you said, "Hey, I'm launching this beta round- Mm-hmm ... of the mastermind if you're interested."
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: And just slid it at me.
Jodi Hendricks: Well, that's literally-
Laura Stansberry: Yeah ...
Jodi Hendricks: whenever I came out with the beta, that's how I did it.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: I, I didn't do a launch. I didn't do anything. I didn't announce it- Yeah ... really all that publicly.
Laura Stansberry: Mm-hmm.
Jodi Hendricks: It was just me sort of like, uh, being a little bit cautious of okay, I'm gonna you know, pop off this thing.
Mm-hmm. Let me just... The ask.
Laura Stansberry: Put it out. Yeah. The
Jodi Hendricks: same way that you asked- The ask ... 50 preschoolers- Right ... I just sent out some DMs- Yeah ... saying "Who is sort of like oscillating around me?"
Laura Stansberry: Mm-hmm. "
Jodi Hendricks: Who's revolving around me right now that would actually invest in this with me?" Which is literally the same exact thing- Yeah
as-
Laura Stansberry: Totally ...
Jodi Hendricks: asking for a photo shoot.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: Right?
Laura Stansberry: So I, I was like done, like sold, like in. What is it? How much is it?
Jodi Hendricks: Okay. Hold-
Laura Stansberry: Like- Hold.
Jodi Hendricks: Hold, hold, hold, hold, hold, hold. Because most people, given [00:06:00] the scenario that you were in-
Laura Stansberry: Mm-hmm.
Jodi Hendricks: Okay, let's rewind a little bit to give a little playback. You had gone to the retreat, and then you had convinced husband with budget and, like, all of that, that like this was the last hurrah.
Mm-hmm. This was the Hail Mary that you were doing.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: And then I'm the in-app purchase.
Laura Stansberry: Mm-hmm. Okay?
Jodi Hendricks: But I don't think that most people would be like, boom, sold.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: I think that they would be like- "Crap, I don't have the money for this."
Laura Stansberry: Mm-hmm. "
Jodi Hendricks: I'm in the red $30,000." Mm-hmm. Do you feel like- I've
Laura Stansberry: already spent five on this other retreat
Jodi Hendricks: You've already spent five on this retreat- Yeah
and then here I am, and hate to tell everybody the cost of this, but the beta round of the mastermind you guys was $2,500, which we all know now it's 10. Who knows what the price of the next one is going to be. Yeah. But it was only $2,500- Yeah ... for the first five, and then $3,500 for the second five. Mm-hmm.
And you got in on the 2,500- Yeah ... I think. Yeah. So we're talking about [00:07:00] $2,500. We're not talking about 10 grand
Laura Stansberry: right now. Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: But so you still jumped at that. So like- I did ... do you feel like, is that a personality thing?
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: That you're just, even though you're in the red, even though there's this- Yeah ... restrict on money.
Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: And it, I felt like it was Here's also the thing. It would've been spring 2023, so I would've just done a round of school photos.
Jodi Hendricks: No.
Laura Stansberry: So it was-
Jodi Hendricks: No, it was spring of 2025. '
Laura Stansberry: 20- oh, 2025. Yeah. No, so I would have either just done or just been going into a round of school photos, and I would've been like, "I probably got the money now."
Jodi Hendricks: Liquid. Liquid. Do you have the money? I had the liquid.
Laura Stansberry: Do
Jodi Hendricks: you have the
Laura Stansberry: money- Was I still in the red? ... liquid in- Did we get a tax refund from my- Okay ... sinking ship? But
Jodi Hendricks: figure
Laura Stansberry: it out later. Hey, you know
Jodi Hendricks: what?
Laura Stansberry: See-
Jodi Hendricks: Being Delilah is sometimes
Laura Stansberry: part of the solution. It is. It is. So anyway, yes, I, I like, was like, done in.
I don't... [00:08:00] Honestly, I defini- I know Jesse and I had a very sit down do the math conversation about the first retreat. I don't even think I talked to him about it.
Jodi Hendricks: Wow.
Laura Stansberry: I think I was just like, "I'll
Jodi Hendricks: figure it out."
Laura Stansberry: I don't,
Jodi Hendricks: I don't know Jesse, but I feel like I could slide in and have a little polyamory with you and Jesse.
Like, I love Jesse. He is- What I know of Jesse from you- ... the best ... is he is the best husband. The
Laura Stansberry: best.
Jodi Hendricks: So, sir- And not just because- Sorry, Brian ... he- I'm sliding into a throuple over here.
Laura Stansberry: He, really is the- it's- ... most supportive husband ...
Jodi Hendricks: it's not as if you were- Yeah ... in a situation where if you spent the money you had to actually worry about what
Laura Stansberry: your husband- He'll be like-
was gonna say ... "Okay, I trust you." And I'll be like, "Okay." You know, he- it like- Love- Yeah ... love
Jodi Hendricks: a trusting man.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah. So he'll, you know- Yeah ... and he's, he's like, "At the end of the day, this makes you happy, and I wanna make you happy, and I believe in it."
Jodi Hendricks: But also too, I wanna say I don't feel like it's just about happiness with Jesse either.
I think that you are a spitfire. You [00:09:00] have a proven track record that you knew how to come out of the gates- Mm-hmm ... like building a business. You knew how to sort of set things in motion and start making money, and he trusted that.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: He saw what probably I see in you, and he sees in you- Mm-hmm
and other people see in you that you have a harder time-
Laura Stansberry: Yeah ...
Jodi Hendricks: seeing in you. But trust, l- my point is trusting you is easy whenever you've already shown that you have the cojones for it.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: You know? So, like-
Laura Stansberry: And he is a sales guy at heart. Yeah, yeah. So he gets it, and he also... He gets, when I have gone through moments of "This is it.
Fuck it. I can't do this anymore. I can't. I'm quitting all of this," he is the one that is like-
Jodi Hendricks: I was like that yesterday ... "I
Laura Stansberry: don't know, man. You gotta really think about this. You love it. You're so talented I don't wanna see you just quit and be sad." Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: So he-
Jodi Hendricks: I told Brian three days ago that I was quitting my whole business.
Yeah. I was li- I was lighting it all on fire.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah. Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: And he was like, "Okay, what are you gonna do instead?" I was like, "I don't know, I'm so good at sales. I'll just, I'll go do [00:10:00] high-ticket sales somewhere." Mm-hmm. And he was just like, "Okay."
Laura Stansberry: Okay. Yeah. "
Jodi Hendricks: Let me know in an hour if you still feel the same way." Right,
Laura Stansberry: right.
It's he's like, "
Jodi Hendricks: You-" I just, I just wanna normalize that conversation. I want to, like-
Laura Stansberry: Sometimes there is a vulnerability of I am freaking out.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah. Because
Laura Stansberry: I see it. I am a numbers person.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: I know it's not going well.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: This is not a delusion of I am just completely oblivious to what is happening.
No, I can tell
Jodi Hendricks: you- And it's also, you're like, no, it's not just- Yeah ... that I wanna do this cute little hobby on the side. Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: You know? Like- Yeah, that's the thing. I don't wanna be, like, hobby photographer. But I wanna- I want this to be, like, a-
Jodi Hendricks: I wanna normalize the conversation that no matter what, at whatever level of business you're running-
Laura Stansberry: Mm-hmm
Jodi Hendricks: there are days that you wanna burn it down.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: There are days that you hate what you've built.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: There are... I have days that I want to burn it down. Mm-hmm. You literally talked to me during lunch yesterday, and I'm [00:11:00] like, "What about this, and what about this, and what about this? And I have to make this decision," and what is...
market research was basically like- Yeah ... our lunch yesterday, me asking you questions. And yesterday I wanted to burn it down. Three days ago I wanted to burn it down. The day before that I wanted to burn it down. I've been wanting to burn it down for ever since I got back from Italy.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
You're just Italy on the brain.
Jodi Hendricks: Italy fucks with you. Yeah. It's like I want a sandy beach- Yeah ... of Italy, right?
Laura Stansberry: And eat fresh tomatoes and...
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah. But I know that coming back from Italy, now I'm in this position of okay, I want to make sure that I grow.
Laura Stansberry: Mm-hmm.
Jodi Hendricks: I wanna make sure that I'm expanding.
I wanna make sure that I'm going in a different direction, so then that adds more pressure. Yeah. And then I'm like, "No, fuck it all. Let me go hide underneath my covers." I just want to make sure that we hit on that, that let's normalize that. Right. Let's normalize that conversation that it never feels 100% good 100% of the time- Mm-hmm
no matter how much money you're making- Yeah ... or no matter how successful your business is. Because literally I was on my, with my team yesterday, and they were like, "Jodi, let's look at the numbers. Here's this number, here's this number, here's this number. Here's how much you've grown. Here's how much you've done this."[00:12:00]
And I'm like, "Yeah, but I don't care." Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: Like Who
Jodi Hendricks: gives a shit about that? The numbers are fine. The numbers are there. Right, right. we're also still human.
Laura Stansberry: Human it-ing.
Jodi Hendricks: We also still have emotions. We also still want to burn it all down-
Laura Stansberry: Yeah ...
Jodi Hendricks: at some point.
Laura Stansberry: Right.
Jodi Hendricks: Okay, so you didn't talk to Jesse.
You jumped into the beta round of the mastermind. What was, if you can remember what was, like, the very first thing even if you remember the very first call, or the very first whatever, what was the very first thing where you were like, "Holy shit, this is different"?
Laura Stansberry: Right. I... 'cause I'm trying to think about what we started with when we started.
Jodi Hendricks: I can't even remember now because I've changed it since then. Right. It's so much bigger now. I can't remember- Yeah ... what our first- '
Laura Stansberry: Cause we only met for eight weeks.
Jodi Hendricks: We only did eight weeks. Eight weeks. And then the second round was 12 weeks. Yeah. And then now it's six months. It keeps on growing.
Laura Stansberry: Right. It keeps getting bigger.
It's
Jodi Hendricks: l- it's one of those sponges you throw [00:13:00] into the bathtub. So
Laura Stansberry: I feel like we started with- I can't exactly remember what we started with. I think we started about the psychology of things. I'm sure we probably did 'cause that's- Yeah, 100% ... your,
Jodi Hendricks: your
Laura Stansberry: deal. But I feel when we- I
Jodi Hendricks: think we started with sticky marketing.
Laura Stansberry: Yes.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: We did. And yes- Yeah ... we did. 'Cause
Jodi Hendricks: that landed for you.
Laura Stansberry: That- Talk about that ... landed for me. Talk about that. So I, because now we have to keep in mind that I am in a place of, "Fuck it." This is- Yeah ... my last- Wait.
Jodi Hendricks: You were back at the same exact spot with school photography was, "Hey, let me just throw out the...
I have nothing to lose."
Laura Stansberry: I have nothing to lose. You were
Jodi Hendricks: back at the place of, "I have nothing to lose." '
Laura Stansberry: Cause we started August of 2025, so we are on the precipice- Yes,
Jodi Hendricks: yes ...
Laura Stansberry: of fall.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah, which is crazy. What was I thinking? And
Laura Stansberry: I'm like... I remember thinking, "What the hell do I have to lose?" [00:14:00]
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: I'm just gonna go wild-
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah
Laura Stansberry: with this. And we started with sticky marketing.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: And I was like, "Oh, I can be sticky."
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: You- You're a sticky
Jodi Hendricks: little bitch.
Laura Stansberry: I can be sticky. I can be so sticky. Almost to a fault. But I mean, there were little things in the back of my mind that I had been wanting to say about family photography for a while- Yeah
but didn't feel brave enough to do it.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: That it was going to be so opposite of what everybody- Everybody else, yeah ... else was doing, and I was like, "Scrooge."
Jodi Hendricks: Whenever just to give like, two sentences- Mm-hmm ... just so we explain sticky marketing a little tiny bit. It's the idea of saying the thing that your clients actually feel and saying it in a way that it resonates with them to where whenever [00:15:00] they think about photography or family photos or photographers or whatever, that you stay sticky.
Mm-hmm.
Laura Stansberry: That
Jodi Hendricks: you stick into their brain because you came at it from a place of novelty that they've never heard somebody else talk about it-
Laura Stansberry: Mm-hmm ...
Jodi Hendricks: in that kind of way. Or that you have something that you're so convicted about that you you wanna stand on a hill 10 toes deep- Mm-hmm ... and you're gonna keep saying it.
Something along the lines of I don't know, hating mini sessions or loving mini sessions- Mm-hmm ... or hating I don't know, albums or loving albums. Mm-hmm. Or just saying the thing that actually resonates to where you actually stick into the brains of your clients. Mm-hmm. So there's a whole entire lesson on it.
There's a whole entire, like, ideology behind it. If you think about, say The Cheesecake Factory- Mm-hmm ... right? The Cheesecake Factory, it has very good sticky marketing- Mm-hmm ... simply with their menu,
Laura Stansberry: right?
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah. The whole entire world talks about how big-
Laura Stansberry: Giant menu ...
Jodi Hendricks: The Cheesecake Factory's menu is.
Yeah. And people either love it or they hate it, and they'll talk about it, and they'll you know, have their family go to this [00:16:00] restaurant because it has this huge menu. Like- Yeah ... their menu in and of itself is a marketing piece.
Laura Stansberry: Right.
Jodi Hendricks: And so we went into the whole idea of sticky marketing, and this is like-
this is Laura's wheelhouse. Yes. She had- Two ... no fear. But also, you told us just a little bit ago that you were like, "Make a reel? Absolutely not. Be on a story?" Yeah. "Absolutely not." And then all of the sudden you were like, "Oh, now I have this direction I can go in"-
Laura Stansberry: Yeah ... "
Jodi Hendricks: let me fucking roll."
Laura Stansberry: And I also decided that it was not gonna be perfect.
One, I was very uncomfortable with it. Those first few stories and things would take me 30, 45 minutes to record. I remember
Jodi Hendricks: that.
Laura Stansberry: And it could literally- I remember that ... be like Hey, everybody. And I decided what I decided as part of this, 'cause I actually m- made a plan. Was it a loose plan?
Did I always stick to the plan? No, because once I get into a roll I'm just gonna be like, "Whatever." But I did actually have a plan.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: And I [00:17:00] decided I was not going to come onto my stories that I had never done, like never.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: When I say never, I mean never. I was gonna come on like I had been doing this the entire time.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah, as you should.
Laura Stansberry: And w- it, there was a piece of the story that you hadn't heard yet because you just happened to miss my story.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: And that's how I started. I started as if I was like in the middle of a conversation-
Jodi Hendricks: As you should ...
Laura Stansberry: that nobody else-
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah ...
Laura Stansberry: had heard yet. And that's just how I started.
And it
Jodi Hendricks: was- So what, hold on. What we mean by that is that you n- should never start a story by saying "Hey, guys. Just thought I wanted to pop on here." "Hey, guys. I haven't turned my face around here for a while." Yeah. No. Laura pops on and acts as if you literally were in the middle of an inside joke that she had with her best friend-
Laura Stansberry: Mm-hmm
Jodi Hendricks: and then starts from there.
Laura Stansberry: Mm-hmm.
Jodi Hendricks: And talks to you in that like same kind of breath, that same kind of funny- Mm-hmm ... that same kind of "Holy shit, what did I just do?" But at the same time, whenever you're talking about your business stuff, you do the exact same [00:18:00] thing.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: So, okay. Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: So anyway, I started there, and I was just in the middle of this conversation.
And in the middle of all of that, I was like, "All right. I've gotta have something that's like sticky that I can like..." I didn't really care about it popping off and going viral, 'cause I don't care about that at all.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: But I wanted it to be something that felt like real with me.
Jodi Hendricks: Relatable. Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: And I had decided my business villains
Jodi Hendricks: are- 'Cause we talk about conviction
we
Laura Stansberry: talk about
Jodi Hendricks: conviction ... we talk about a common enemy. We talk about- But
Laura Stansberry: I kind of knew what this was already Yeah ... and I'm like, "I'm picking the thing that nobody else is doing, and I am going to be, I'm gonna go hard-
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah ...
Laura Stansberry: on being anti mini session."
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: I am gonna go hard on being anti digital. Not, I love digital images.
Jodi Hendricks: I love digital images. Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: I, I go feral for digital images, but I don't wanna talk about the goddamn digital images.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: That, and that was actually one of my taglines-
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah ...
Laura Stansberry: was stop talking about the damn [00:19:00] digitals.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: And start talking about- What are you doing with these? Yeah. So those were my, I am gonna talk all about these
Jodi Hendricks: things.
Let me, let me clear up what we were just saying. Yeah. So Laura and I are both saying we love a digital only sale.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah,
Jodi Hendricks: yeah. Because we have a pricing structure inside of Posers that makes sure that you don't have to resent your digital only clients.
Laura Stansberry: Yes.
Jodi Hendricks: So we love a digital only sale because it's so easy- Right
for us, right? There's no cost of goods sold. There's no legwork that has to happen afterwards. We don't have to design an album. We don't have to do a gallery wall. You don't have to spend more time. A digital- Yeah ... only client is so freaking great, 'cause it feels like clean money. Yeah. It feels like easy money.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: Right?
Laura Stansberry: Do I love... Yes, and I love that shit.
Jodi Hendricks: So she wasn't, yeah, but she wasn't gonna talk about that on social media because she also wants to make sure that her clients are, like, investing in the artwork, investing
Laura Stansberry: in the- 'Cause I wanna put a- ... like- ... five pound album in every client's hand
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah. Right.
Exactly. So even though on the business side, do we love a digital only [00:20:00] sale? Yeah. Yes, but that's not what she's gonna present on the front s- front-facing visibility side of her business.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah. So that's what we- So I'm not villainizing digital images. Yeah. I just you know, think there should be more to that behind it.
Yeah. But take a, go nuts with, you know, it's easier
Jodi Hendricks: for- The lazy side of us loves-
Laura Stansberry: The
Jodi Hendricks: lazy side of me ... loves a digital image Thank
Laura Stansberry: God. Sorry, I'm messing with my little thing.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: Uh, but anyway, I decided these were the things I'm gonna go hard. More so than the, I sort of started with these th- things, and then I really started going hard on mini sessions.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: Because I personally never, I never, I have done them. I think they're great. I think they have their place. I have never loved them because I don't like to work that fast-
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah ... with people. And the thing about, the thing about this kind of marketing too is that you get to do whatever the fuck you want.
Laura Stansberry: Right.
Jodi Hendricks: If you love a mini session, crank out.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: You know? Go hog wild. Talk about your mini sessions. Talk about how much you hate a full session. Talk about how much [00:21:00] you- Totally ... resonate with that you can only stand kids for five minutes and probably don't say that on your business.
But-
Laura Stansberry: Well, not too many ...
Jodi Hendricks: yeah, take, take everything that you love about that side and take everything that you hate on the other side- Yeah ... and like not demonize it in like a satanic sort of way.
Laura Stansberry: Right.
Jodi Hendricks: But you demonize it against like what other photographers in your area are doing so that it sets you apart, so that- Yeah
there's a differentiator.
Laura Stansberry: Yes.
Jodi Hendricks: So that's why, like I wanna make sure that whenever you're listening to this podcast, you're not like, "Oh, she hates this and she whatever." No, you get to do whatever it is that you want-
Laura Stansberry: Right ... to
Jodi Hendricks: do. But this is what Laura wanted to do.
Laura Stansberry: This is what I wanted to do. Yeah. And I wanted something to sink my teeth into.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: That was my whole point. So it came out very organically. I had gone with a friend.
Jodi Hendricks: It came out very feral.
Laura Stansberry: Very feral. It came out very feral. I went to dinner with a friend one night, and we went and had Mexican food And we had decided during the course of that dinner [00:22:00] that it made more sense for us to get a full pitcher of margaritas-
Jodi Hendricks: Oh, that's
Laura Stansberry: girl math
than it did for us to get- That's girl math ... two individual margaritas.
Jodi Hendricks: Oh my God, you're bringing up the margaritas. I forgot. I thought we were going sourdough, and it's the margaritas.
Laura Stansberry: No, it's the margaritas.
Jodi Hendricks: As I sip my cocktail.
Laura Stansberry: Yes. So I came up with this whole equation of how- A full session and a pitcher of margaritas are the s- make perfect sense
Jodi Hendricks: That does make perfect sense.
Laura Stansberry: That it is- I
Jodi Hendricks: fucking love that a- I love that take. Like-
Laura Stansberry: More time, better, better value-
Jodi Hendricks: Yep ...
Laura Stansberry: better experience. You can really- Way
Jodi Hendricks: better experience. ...
Laura Stansberry: settle in. The waiter is not coming back- Yeah ... to refill you, ask you questions. No. They're just sort of leaving you with your chips and guac and your pitcher of margaritas, and you get to enjoy your [00:23:00] evening.
And I made the equation that that is like the full s- session experience versus the mini session experience. Yeah. That you really get the time to settle in. Everybody says their kids just need five minutes. No, they don't. They're feral little monsters all the way through, and again, I love them. My people know I love them.
So-
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah ...
Laura Stansberry: they-
Jodi Hendricks: And you would say that too.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah
Jodi Hendricks: It's like, "I love your feral little monsters." I
Laura Stansberry: do love your feral little monsters. And but they don't love me back, and it takes more than five minutes for them to decide that they're going to play along with this weird thing that we have
Jodi Hendricks: asked-
Laura Stansberry: Yeah
toddlers to do.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: So, and I equated that. So my whole thing was, is I voiced it over, but then I couldn't get my rhythm down for my voiceover- ... and my margarita pouring.
Jodi Hendricks: I'm laughing 'cause I know what-
Laura Stansberry: You can see
Jodi Hendricks: it ... I've seen it. I know what she's talking about.
Laura Stansberry: So I made [00:24:00] margaritas in my kitchen in the most insane way.
Jodi Hendricks: Blender spewing. Things are spilling. Like-
Laura Stansberry: Things, throwing things over my shoulder. I had a l- I wa- I kept moving a lemon and a lime. Actually had it taped to my arm with painter's tape.
Jodi Hendricks: I was-
Laura Stansberry: I had it in my bra at one point, and then I take it out, and I'm, like, tossing it around and, you know.
Jodi Hendricks: We're also not saying that you have to be as- You
Laura Stansberry: don't have to do this. But I had a wild time making it, and I made three different reels- Yep ... about it, specifically using that analog- analogy, and people loved it. Yeah. And it made them laugh.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: And that was the whole point.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah, 'cause that's also your personality.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: That's exactly, like, how you are. So I say this all the time too, like, whenever I'm, like, inside the mastermind or we're teaching whatever you do not have to adopt somebody else's personality.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: You do not have to take and make yourself feel as though you're forced into doing something that doesn't resonate with you.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: You do the exact opposite. You [00:25:00] make sure that whatever it is- that you're creating and the content that you're putting out- Mm-hmm ... actually is so incredibly relatable to you. Mm-hmm. And that it shows what your differentiators are.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: Whereas Laura's just happen to be craziness.
Laura Stansberry: Craziness. And-
Jodi Hendricks: And
Laura Stansberry: I have embraced-
Jodi Hendricks: And fun and alcohol
the craziness and
Laura Stansberry: the fun and the silly- Yeah ... and the imperfect. And that is really one of my, I've had a lot of life lessons this year, the last 18 months or so, but one of them has been letting it be okay being messy.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: And that in the, like, literal and figurative sense, because that, my kitchen was sticky for a long time after that whole situation.
But we have ants now. No, we don't. We're kidding, joking. But to be okay with showing up and not looking perfect, feeling perfect, the production value isn't perfect It'll get [00:26:00] there.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: And it's something I still think about right now. I still think "Okay, it's better than it was," but it's still going forward.
But that doesn't mean- Yeah ... I'm stopping-
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah ...
Laura Stansberry: right now. My behind-the-scenes aren't great. I need to hire someone for behind the scenes. But you know what? I'm doing it. Yeah. I've taken my tripod and I stick it up, and we're 1,000 feet away. But also,
Jodi Hendricks: one, I don't, I don't even want to go into the place of "Oh, it's not great yet.
I need- No ... this, I need that," because you are still very great at... And we're talking about a year later.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: You are still very consistent and very good at running social media and your newsletter list. Your- Yeah,
Laura Stansberry: and that's the thing,
Jodi Hendricks: like- Your weekly newsletters are on point ...
Laura Stansberry: I don't wanna make it sound like, "Oh, okay, I'm doing the best I can."
Sure. Great. But-
Jodi Hendricks: No, you're crushing it ...
Laura Stansberry: the doing it is the point.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah. It's done.
Laura Stansberry: The doing it is the point, and the consistently showing up every single day no matter what- Yeah ... [00:27:00] and having a plan.
Jodi Hendricks: And sometimes even I I post something and there's crickets.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: I post something, even if I put something up on my stories where I'm like, "Oh, hey," "Here's a poll.
Here's this," whatever, crickets.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: And then other times I'll post something random about what kind of tile should I put somewhere, and I have 4,000 responses . Right, right. The thing is, is that you never know what's going to go, so it's almost like just do it.
Laura Stansberry: Mm-hmm.
Jodi Hendricks: Just go with everything.
Laura Stansberry: Mm-hmm. And it is working.
Yeah. It is.
Jodi Hendricks: But also, your, it's not just that that's working- Mm-hmm ... for your business. You've done that marketing piece, you've really everything that we've- Mm-hmm ... taught within the Mastermind- Yeah ... you have honed in on. Yes. And you're going. So- So
Laura Stansberry: we should pr- rewind to last fall, 'cause I think- Okay.
Yeah, yeah, yeah ... that's a huge change.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Laura Stansberry: So anyway,
Jodi Hendricks: I- We can't skip over that.
Laura Stansberry: No, we can't. So we spent, I had done a little back work myself. We started in August. Okay, so August is technically, we started [00:28:00] after when a launch should actually happen.
Jodi Hendricks: We did.
Laura Stansberry: And m- not, I wasn't alone in this. Almost all of us in that- Because-
beta group ...
Jodi Hendricks: in all fairness, I didn't think that I was teaching you the launch for that year.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: I was teaching you the launch for the future of your business. Yes. I was teaching you so that you had it for Black Friday, for the spring- Yeah ... for whatever. it was my first time running it.
Yeah. So I wasn't thinking, "Oh, they're all gonna want to run a launch." And even as I was teaching it, I was like, "No, guys," "This is too soon. This is too..." Whatever. Mm-hmm. I even doubted the power of it myself- And then all of you started to pop off a
Laura Stansberry: launch.
Jodi Hendricks: Mm-hmm. And I was like, "Okay, pop off." Yeah. Go for it.
Yes.
Laura Stansberry: So, and my thought process, I think, I don't wanna speak for anybody else, but I think we've collectively as a group were like, "Why not?" Yeah. You know? Like, why not? We're all here. Let's do it together. We'll- Yeah ... do this in real time.
Jodi Hendricks: We, and we did, yeah.
Laura Stansberry: So my, at the beginning, my goal was to book seven sessions.
Jodi Hendricks: Oh, God, I remember [00:29:00] this. No-
Laura Stansberry: It was this- No- It was the fall of sevens. Everything was seven ...
Jodi Hendricks: I think your goal was seven. You said that you were doing the seven-seven-seven.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: I remember that. But you had said to me on, like one-on-one calls or something, you were like, "I'll be fine if I book three." "I'll be-" That's
Laura Stansberry: true
Jodi Hendricks: "happy if I book three." Yeah. 'Cause I remember three sticking out in my head.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: You said, "I'll be happy if I book three." And I was like, "Okay, cool. Pop off." Mm-hmm. Let's see what happens. '
Laura Stansberry: Cause in my mind I'm thinking like, I am putting my all on this, but I also want to be like realistic. I am really have
Well, I had been doing a little bit of work-
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah ...
Laura Stansberry: on, like cultivating my list- Yeah ... and things like that. But it wasn't, there wasn't a ton of structure behind it.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: So I'm like, let's be realistic.
Jodi Hendricks: But your launch was the seven-seven-seven.
Laura Stansberry: Yes.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah. And then you were saying that you'd be okay with three.
Laura Stansberry: Three.
Jodi Hendricks: And then you sold the three.
Laura Stansberry: And I was like, "Well, I guess we'll do seven."
Jodi Hendricks: You're like, "Okay, cool." So then you sold the seven, and you were like, "Oh, my God."
Laura Stansberry: Okay, maybe we'll do 10.
Jodi Hendricks: Okay, cool. And then you, you kept on moving [00:30:00] the goalpost. Yes.
Laura Stansberry: I ended up with 17, so we still got to keep the seven.
Jodi Hendricks: You still got to keep the seven.
But so you ended up booking 17 full sessions-
Laura Stansberry: Mm-hmm ...
Jodi Hendricks: for the fall-
Laura Stansberry: Yes ...
Jodi Hendricks: based on the launch system- Mm-hmm ... that I taught you.
Laura Stansberry: Yep.
Jodi Hendricks: And in the year prior, you couldn't get
Laura Stansberry: somebody to
Jodi Hendricks: book- In- ... a fall session to save your life ...
Laura Stansberry: no. I think in the year prior- I, we went back and looked at one pla- one time
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah, we did ...
Laura Stansberry: and I think I had... 'Cause we took out schools, we took out Santa Yeah, yeah ... we took out workshops,
Jodi Hendricks: all that
Laura Stansberry: kind of stuff I remember that.
I
Jodi Hendricks: don't remember the exact number I
Laura Stansberry: think I had two or three-
Jodi Hendricks: Something like that ...
Laura Stansberry: sessions. Yeah. And that's probably where the three came from, honestly. Maybe.
Jodi Hendricks: If
Laura Stansberry: that's where I started.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah, maybe.
Laura Stansberry: Okay, at least if I did what I did last year.
Jodi Hendricks: But then you had 17 17. And then what happened?
Laura Stansberry: Yeah. And then we made an insane amount of money.
Jodi Hendricks: You made an insane-
Laura Stansberry: Insane amount of money ...
Jodi Hendricks: amount. I don't remember the number.
Laura Stansberry: I'd have to look. I'd have to, but I remember- We probably
Jodi Hendricks: [00:31:00] should have had that
Laura Stansberry: before we We probably should have. We, I do, no, I remember the percentage. It wa- Because I remember- I remember
Jodi Hendricks: 387% ...
Laura Stansberry: yes. Yeah. Why
Jodi Hendricks: do I remember that
Laura Stansberry: number?
'Cause we've talked about it. 'Cause that was more, to me, that was more important than the money.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: Because, again, you have to keep in mind, this was like a, this was like a not just like taking on a little water ship.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: We were fully underwater.
Jodi Hendricks: We were sinking.
Laura Stansberry: We were sinking.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: So to me, yeah, the money was important, and the money was incredible, and it was really exciting, but to me it was more exciting to look at last year I worked with- The growth
three people, and this year I worked with 17.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: Last year I booked two new clients. This year I booked 10 new clients who had never worked with me before. You know, all of these things that came-
Jodi Hendricks: You wanted to look at the growth ...
Laura Stansberry: through that. I wanted to look at the growth.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: Because sometimes I think we- All [00:32:00] get into "Well, I'm not successful if I'm not making six figures."
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah. "
Laura Stansberry: I'm not successful if I'm not at 100K or 150K or whatever." Yeah. And that is great, and I'm, I'm gonna take it-
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah ...
Laura Stansberry: for damn sure.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: But to me, you can't expect to go from -$30,000 to positive 150 in one year. Yeah. Or not even one year in three months.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: That's crazy.
Jodi Hendricks: It was two months of the mastermind-
Laura Stansberry: Yeah
Jodi Hendricks: and then one month after you were doing-
Laura Stansberry: Doing shoots ... photoshoots. Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah. What I love about this too is that there, in my world, in the education space the educators, we always want the big transformation.
Laura Stansberry: Mm-hmm.
Jodi Hendricks: Right? The big huge "Oh my God, she made-" Mm-hmm ... "$200,000. Oh my God, we, she, we moved her into multi six figures," whatever.
And those stories are always so great. They're always so nice. Yeah. It's like, okay, cool. But I think there's [00:33:00] this idea too of okay, but she already had this, she already had that, or she already had this incredible client base. Mm-hmm. She already had whatever. Like, whenever we talk about your story, we're talking about literally negative nothing.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: Negative nothing. We're
Laura Stansberry: talking, I had a handful of friends who booked me.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah. Into a full legitimate business- Mm-hmm ... that now we're running in 2026. Mm-hmm. And I think one of the biggest things that needs to be said here is that you jumped into the beta round with me in August- Yep ... of that year, of 2025, right?
Laura Stansberry: Mm-hmm.
Jodi Hendricks: And we did eight weeks together. And then what I offered that group was for whoever wanted to, that you could stay on- Mm-hmm ... with me more as like a monthly membership.
Laura Stansberry: Yep.
Jodi Hendricks: More as just hey, as you build, as you scale- Yep ... you're gonna have me in your corner so that
Laura Stansberry: you can- Like a check-in and-
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
All the check-ins, all the accountability, all of the abilities to just ask questions and keep growing. Yep. And you stayed in that.
Laura Stansberry: Yes.
Jodi Hendricks: And [00:34:00] then I popped off the other round of the mastermind- Mm-hmm ... in January, and we ran through that one, and it was 12 weeks. And then we came upon the next round of the mastermind- Mm-hmm
and that's whenever it went to $10,000. Yeah. And that's whenever it went to six months.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: And you decided at that point that you were gonna re-enlist- Yes ... and that you were gonna do the mastermind again, because, well, for one, I had told you it is a completely different mastermind. Yes. It is so much bigger.
It is so much more detailed. It's so much of a, of a big, of a full picture. Mm-hmm. And it's still, there's so much that I still need to add to it. Yeah. But I wanna talk about, like- that decision that you made to not only do the mastermind with me, but then, and this isn't just for me Mm-hmm It's for any educator, right?
That like once you get into a system that you are really vibing with Mm-hmm You love the educator. You love how they work. You love how they think. You love how they teach.
Laura Stansberry: Mm-hmm.
Jodi Hendricks: To stay in that. Yeah. What made you make that decision?
Laura Stansberry: Well, [00:35:00] because, well, one, After fall, I did a very small Black Friday launch.
That also went well, and that booked into my spring. Yeah. Yeah. I felt like even after round two, where we, we had the cult and we sound- we kept it, you know-
Jodi Hendricks: We called it the cult. We
Laura Stansberry: called it the cult.
Jodi Hendricks: I called it the cult.
Laura Stansberry: Yes. I don't know if that was the official- I love to- ... branded name,
Jodi Hendricks: but- I love to build a cult
there we
Laura Stansberry: go. We all know this. Yes. We were in the cult, and things were clicking, and I was like, at that moment in time, "Do I stay in this? Do I not?" And then came around the opportunity for the mastermind, and I was like, I have a friend who was in the first, the 12 weeks.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: And she was, like, loving it, and I knew there had been more, you know, without anybody, like, divulging any information.
I knew there was so much more that had been added, and then in our conversations, I knew you had added even more, and I'm like, "God, I want this information." Yeah. I feel like I need this information, and I also felt like I needed the [00:36:00] accountability piece to continue to build the good habits- Yeah ... of how I'm running this business forward and into the future.
Jodi Hendricks: Do you feel like the accountability piece is just with me?
Laura Stansberry: No.
Jodi Hendricks: Or do you feel like it's with the group, it's with the community? No, it's with the group.
Laura Stansberry: It's with the
Jodi Hendricks: community. It's, I think it's more so-
Laura Stansberry: Yeah ...
Jodi Hendricks: with the community than it is with me.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah, because we talk on our calls, and we have our check-ins and-
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah
Laura Stansberry: that, but there are-
Jodi Hendricks: The day-to-day is
Laura Stansberry: with the community ... women with the community, with the other women in this group talking every single day.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah. You
Laura Stansberry: know, about something. Yeah. You know, where we're all chiming in, helping each other, keeping each other on track. Are you experiencing this? Am I experiencing this?
What, you know, what are we gonna-
Jodi Hendricks: And it's almost like a group where you can actually... It's like having sisters- Yes ... where mom's not in the group.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: I'm not there.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah, you pop in. You make sure we're not, you know, drinking under the bar or whatever, but, you know.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah, but for the most part, like-
you guys can say whatever you actually wanna say- Yeah ... and, and, and do those things, and I'm not there to slap any wrists.
Laura Stansberry: Exactly. Yeah. [00:37:00] Exactly. '
Jodi Hendricks: Cause I would.
Laura Stansberry: And then you come in periodically, and are like, "Whoa, whoa, whoa, girls. Get back
Jodi Hendricks: on track." "Whoa. Let's, let's reel it back in. You guys are thinking about this the wrong way."
Yes. "Hold the phone." Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah. No, so I needed that, and I wanted to go through the entire runway- Yeah ... of a fall launch-
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah, 'cause we hadn't done that yet ...
Laura Stansberry: as a group with all- Yeah ... of this knowledge that we have gained, and I have gained- Yeah ... and do that entire launch
Jodi Hendricks: together. And we're, we're in the middle of that right now.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: How do you think it's gonna go?
Laura Stansberry: Right.
Jodi Hendricks: Okay, so for anybody who's not inside the mastermind with us we, we launched the runway on July 1st- Mm-hmm ... but then we actually drop our dates on August 1st. So we're literally- Yeah ... 10 days out. Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah. And I'm a little off on that timing because I wanted to do mine- Oh, you're doing-
on Tuesday.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah. I,
Laura Stansberry: I just wanna stick with Tuesday launch days no matter
Jodi Hendricks: what. Yeah, 'cause August 1st this year lands on a Saturday, and I've always sort of, like- Yeah ... taught around the idea of not launching on a Saturday. Yeah. But I've launched mine this way [00:38:00] for eight, nine years- Yeah ... or something like that, so August 1st is built in for my audience.
Mm-hmm. And so you're doing it August 4th, right?
Laura Stansberry: Yeah. If that makes sense. And because I've started my own, without even kind of even realizing it, had started my own Tuesdays are when my big information come out, you know? Yeah. So this was like, this felt like- Yeah ... oh, this'll just be consistent with what I do.
Jodi Hendricks: Psychology-wise, that makes sense. Yes.
Laura Stansberry: So I ... Think it's gonna be amazing. I have
a goal of 22 sessions, which is just sort of random, but I went and counted all of my days-
Jodi Hendricks: Your availability, yeah ...
Laura Stansberry: my availability. And so far, I have 11.
Jodi Hendricks: You've already got half.
Laura Stansberry: Half.
As of
Jodi Hendricks: this date. Insert my evil laugh.
Laura Stansberry: Yes. I just- I have 11 ... I
Jodi Hendricks: just love a launch system. I can't ... I hate the idea of having to pound the pavement all year long.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah,
Jodi Hendricks: yeah. I hate the idea of having to be like, "Hey, want a photo shoot? Hey, want a-" [00:39:00]
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: The launch system takes all of that away- Mm-hmm
to where then literally people are coming after you.
Laura Stansberry: Right.
Jodi Hendricks: They're dying- And- ... to be on your calendar ...
Laura Stansberry: and I have a, a little, like ... Because you have to wonder, in a sense, especially, like, where I feel like I am. Like, yeah, my business is almost seven years old, but it's really not. There's really two years of, let's call it almost two years of COVID.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah, yeah.
Laura Stansberry: It wa- And
Jodi Hendricks: I started
Laura Stansberry: in the fall- Well, it wasn't ... It was like two, two and a half years, something ... of 2019. Yeah. So there's that's hardly anything. So you're talking really it's 2022, 2023 before I really start doing anything, so my business is still kind of a baby.
Jodi Hendricks: It's a baby.
Laura Stansberry: It's a baby.
So- To me, you feel, I feel like, do I really know what's gonna happen? Well, no, but signs are positive. First of all, I have 11 booked.
Jodi Hendricks: [00:40:00] Yeah. I- Even if you stopped right now.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: Signs are positive that you're gonna have a really great fall.
Laura Stansberry: Right. I, the other day, I got a DM. I've been... My whole year has been the year of networking.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: So I've been at networking events, doing collaborations with people.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: Literally, like, reaching out to people and saying, "Hey, like- Doing the
Jodi Hendricks: hard thing that- ...
Laura Stansberry: how do we, can we work together?" ...
Jodi Hendricks: they teach you to do.
Laura Stansberry: Yes.
Jodi Hendricks: Yes.
Laura Stansberry: And again, it's just not being afraid of the no. Maybe they say yes, maybe they say no.
I don't know. It's not my business.
Jodi Hendricks: Doesn't change your life.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah. It is. So I worked with a local mom's group, and we did a collaboration together, and it was great. You know, I've kinda been, like, working and nurturing some of those conversations there. And a few weeks ago, I get a DM and it's, "Hi, my name is so and so, and I met you through this group.
I just found out I'm expecting, and we want you to take our announcement photos." Love. So when you wonder, "Is this... Am I just [00:41:00] speaking out into a void?"
Jodi Hendricks: You're not.
Laura Stansberry: You're not.
Jodi Hendricks: It feels like it, though.
Laura Stansberry: It feels like it.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah. And that's the hard part is 'cause whenever you speak, whenever you say things and you get crickets- Yeah
whenever you say... You never know, and you can never measure either. No. Who's listening?
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: You can't. And who it's actually resonating with. Or even that you're out there and you're, like, marketing your business and doing all of that-
Laura Stansberry: Mm-hmm ...
Jodi Hendricks: and that they're not telling their sister.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: They're not telling their best friend.
Yeah. So, I, I hear this a lot, of like- Mm-hmm ... I don't know what to say, I don't know what to do. I feel like I'm just speaking into, into the void. And so then you, they just stop.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: Rather than trusting the process that, like- Mm-hmm ... people are there, people are hearing- Yeah ... people are listening.
Laura Stansberry: And that was a really cool moment because it was like a as you're literally sitting there thinking like- And somebody is not only out there, but finds out this really cool, I'm gonna cry a little bit, finds out this like [00:42:00] really exciting
Jodi Hendricks: Like moment in their
Laura Stansberry: life ... moment.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: And they're like, "I'm gonna call Lars Dilsberg."
I love that.
How cool is that, you know?
Jodi Hendricks: It's the coolest. It- and honestly, the fact that it even hits you in your chest, like that tells you that like HR was never your game.
Laura Stansberry: Right.
Jodi Hendricks: Like all the other businesses that you talk about opening, like those are never- ... your game because look at what this does to you.
Laura Stansberry: Right.
Look at-
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah ... what this opens up inside of your heart, inside of your chest. Yeah. This is exactly- 'Cause
Laura Stansberry: I genuinely feel so honored-
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah ...
Laura Stansberry: that they, they haven't even told family and friends.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: And I know this information.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: And I'm like, "That is just like the coolest thing ever."
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah. You always do get to know the secrets- Yeah
before everybody else, right? Yeah. But I, I don't think that's where the tears are coming from.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: I think the tears are coming more from the idea of like, holy shit, I like did it. I
Laura Stansberry: did it. Like-
Jodi Hendricks: Like that you're now in this position- Mm-hmm ... [00:43:00] that like whenever somebody comes upon a big huge moment like that, you're the person that they think about.
Laura Stansberry: Mm-hmm.
Jodi Hendricks: And that's fucking cool.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: That's really fucking-
Laura Stansberry: Yeah ...
Jodi Hendricks: like that's worth the mo- Yeah. I mean, I was gonna say like that's worth more than the money in the bank. But you know I'm a whore for
Laura Stansberry: money.
Jodi Hendricks: No, we still need the money in the bank. So we still need the money in the bank, and we still need all of that, but how cool is it is- Yeah
and how cool is it that you get to be like that fulfilled- Yeah ... for that money that you're earning-
Laura Stansberry: Yeah ...
Jodi Hendricks: to do it. We haven't even, like we didn't even touch into like pricing structure-
Laura Stansberry: No ... and
Jodi Hendricks: everything that changed in your business there. No. But like even you booking 11 sessions, we know that that's- Mm
between 20 and $30,000- Yeah ... in your bank for the fall. Yeah. So like that's huge.
Laura Stansberry: Yes. Huge. It's really
Jodi Hendricks: huge. Not even including everything that you've already done-
Laura Stansberry: Yeah ...
Jodi Hendricks: like for this year, so I can't wait to see. Mm-hmm. Because right now we're at the one-year mark, but really it's more like, okay, you had your launch last year, and then get through all of that this year- Mm-hmm
to really [00:44:00] see like this was what the mastermind did.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah. And
Jodi Hendricks: I cannot wait.
Laura Stansberry: Yes.
Jodi Hendricks: We were already at an increase, uh, from 2025, no 2024- 4 ... to 2025. You grew by 387% in revenue.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: I wanna compare 2024 to 2026.
Laura Stansberry: Yes. Like
Jodi Hendricks: I cannot-
Laura Stansberry: Yeah ...
Jodi Hendricks: even wait to see like what kind of- Yeah ... transformation that was.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah. 'Cause we are in the positive now for this year.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: So I am about-
Jodi Hendricks: Including digging yourself out of the hole.
Laura Stansberry: Including digging myself
Jodi Hendricks: out of the hole Digging yourself
Laura Stansberry: out of that $30,000
Jodi Hendricks: hole. Yes. And now you're like back in the black- Yeah ... and back into making profit.
Laura Stansberry: Fewer clients
Jodi Hendricks: Yep. 'Cause you're making more money per client. Mm-hmm.
Laura Stansberry: Without- I am making-
Jodi Hendricks: Without the Santa burnout
Laura Stansberry: yeah, without the Santa burnout.
Jodi Hendricks: That's major. Yeah. She's, she's pulling out her phone. She's- I
Laura Stansberry: am gonna show you. 'Cause I did actually, this was like, I took some-
Jodi Hendricks: She's looking at year to date. We're looking at numbers. We're looking at revenue. I'm absolutely obsessed.
Laura Stansberry: So this is just [00:45:00] January '25 to July '25.
Jodi Hendricks: Okay.
Laura Stansberry: January '26 to July '26. Average spend per customer is up 179%.
Jodi Hendricks: Love it.
Laura Stansberry: Yep.
Jodi Hendricks: Love it.
Laura Stansberry: Yep. It was 350, 250. It is now 985.50.
Jodi Hendricks: Love.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: I'm so freaking proud of you.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: If there's one thing that Lara of 2026 can say- Mm-hmm ... to Lara of Mm-hmm ... what would it be?
Laura Stansberry: To
Jodi Hendricks: be afraid to show your face.
Oh. Mm-hmm. Okay.
Laura Stansberry: Mm-hmm.
Jodi Hendricks: You feel like that's the thing?
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: that was the mindset shift, that was the change? Mm-hmm. Was it, like- Yeah ... you actually had to embrace social media?
Laura Stansberry: I had to show up, and I had to show up more than once.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: And that, that, I mean-
Jodi Hendricks: Even, not even more than once.
Consistently ...
Laura Stansberry: and I guess it's not even, it's not even the social factor. Yes, that was a huge part of it, and yes, do I think that that has made an incredible difference?
Jodi Hendricks: I do
Laura Stansberry: too. 100%.
Jodi Hendricks: I think it's, [00:46:00] it's huge. Absolutely. It's the thing that grew my business.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah. It, but It was applying the consistency across all parts of the business-
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah ...
Laura Stansberry: that made the difference.
Jodi Hendricks: Because the, in my head, I would think even though yes, the social media consistency is so important, yes, the email marketing is so important, yes, the collaboration's so important- Mm-hmm ... none of those things actually turn into money until you activate people to buy.
Laura Stansberry: Yes. And none of them are really gonna turn into money by themselves.
Jodi Hendricks: No. No. Until you activate the buy.
Laura Stansberry: They have to like, work together.
Jodi Hendricks: Which is the Launch System.
Laura Stansberry: Yep.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah. Crazy.
Laura Stansberry: Crazy town.
Jodi Hendricks: I'm so proud of you.
Laura Stansberry: Thank you.
Jodi Hendricks: Seriously. And honestly, too I don't necessarily think that it was me. I think that whatever program you would have gotten into, you would've grown.
You would've taken it, you would've gone with it. You, like I said, [00:47:00] you are the type of person who once you have the knowledge- Mm-hmm ... and have the information, you will run through the brick wall. So, like, I just don't even want you to ever feel like, "Oh, Jody did this," or, "Jody taught me this." No. Yes, I taught it, but somebody else could've taught it, too, right?
And you, whatever system you would've implemented, you would've crushed out. So every bit of the success, every bit of this revenue, every bit of that growth- That is yours.
Laura Stansberry: Yeah.
Jodi Hendricks: And it's not mine.
Laura Stansberry: Well, thank you. And thank you for holding my hand through it.
Jodi Hendricks: You're welcome.
Laura Stansberry: And occasionally, like-
Jodi Hendricks: Punching you in the
Laura Stansberry: face
shaking me. Literally and figuratively.
Jodi Hendricks: I love it. Yes. I love it. Thank you so much for coming on the Posers podcast. This is probably going to be five episodes. Because we get into a lot. Yeah. I got, I get on side railing, derailing, like- Yes ... going off on these little, like, fun tangents, but thank you for being so- But it was
Laura Stansberry: amazing.
Jodi Hendricks: Yeah, you were so open, so vulnerable. Yeah.
Laura Stansberry: Thank you for having me. I appreciate you.
Jodi Hendricks: [00:48:00] Thank you. I love you.
Laura Stansberry: Love you.
